In July 2017, the Academia de Fútbol Base de Paita (Piura) was launched, together with the Celta de Vigo Foundation and the Instituto Peruano del Deporte (IPD), a decentralized public body attached to the Peruvian Ministry of Education.
In 2023, the academy’s new facilities were inaugurated in the multi-purpose hall of the Dos de Mayo Human Settlement, thanks to funding from the García Chillón Orlando Foundation and the collaboration of Produmar, the Dos de Mayo Human Settlement, the Yo Calidad Club and the Celta de Vigo Foundation.
Around 150 children between 6 and 18 years of age are part of this academy, which has both a male and female team, promoting gender equality.
This academy provides support to an area where the inhabitants have difficulties in accessing work as well as scarce economic resources and a lack of infrastructure.
Thanks to the training and the motivation of the sport, young boys and girls are kept off the streets. The project aims to contribute to the integration of disadvantaged people, promoting and supporting sports as an instrument of social transformation, through the transmission of values and the generation of skills that affect tolerance, peace, health, social inclusion, equality and personal development.
